I’ve been messing around with a lot of different themes on JoeyBuddha.com. Changing the theme provides me with an opportunity to express my creativity, even though I don’t personally create all of the themes I use, and at the same time, it allows me to get feedback from you! With all of these changes being made, I’ve been getting a lot of questions as to how I do it, so I decided to put together a quick video tutorial on how to install a WordPress theme through your cPanel.
Before You Start
There are a couple of things to take into consideration before you watch the video. In order for this video to help you out, there are some prerequisites that you have to know before you start this process. Although they might seem simple and basic to some people, I know it can be very complex to others.
- WordPress.org vs. WordPress.com – This is for use with WordPress.org, not WordPress.com. WordPress.com is a great free blogging platform, but you’re limited to the changes you can make to your site in regards to themes, widgets, etc. WordPress.org is free to download and install, but you have to provide your own hosting. Speaking of which….
- Hosting – In order to use WordPress.org, you need to have your own hosting account with WordPress installed. Bluehost and Dreamhost are two companies that WordPress recommends for hosting, both of which have a one-click WordPress auto installation. If you’re a beginner or just want to save some time, I highly recommend the auto install.
- Domain – You don’t have to own or buy a domain name to use with your hosting, but if you’ve gotten this far, I’m going to assume that this is something that you’ve already done, or are anticipating doing.
I think that’s all for now! If you like the video, or if you think I missed something, let me know by leaving a comment below!
